Gunjan Uppal is an individual animal rights advocate, dog feeder and rescuer who works in the Vasant Kunj area. Gunjan has a roster of temporary staff who help her execute the work. A brief overview of Gunjan’s work allows you to see the power of the individual.
- Feeds 570+ dogs (and 11 cats) daily.
- Operates an ambulance with a driver which attends to dogs that need treatment and does vet visits.
- Operates a mass production kitchen out of her courtyard. They produce over 35 kg of chicken and 70 kg of rice daily for the dogs. Her driver collects left over chicken, bread from surrounding bakeries, butchers and restaurants to save on cost. To help with the feeding she hires 2 auto’s +2 boys from the local basti.
Gunjan’shome functions as a mini shelter where she cares for 55 dogs. The majority of the dogs were bought for treatment but lack the capacity to be able to survive on the street. She has a helper at home who helps her look after the dogs. Gunjan has organised sterilisation of 480+ dogs in the area.
