The Lall Foundation recognizes that educating children not only gives them an opportunity to maximize their potential, it provides economic mobility to entire families and helps them be lifted from the clutches of financial non-inclusion. Focusing on the girl child allows for a more equal society in more ways than one.
In the past few years we have individually and with the help of friends and family sponsored children through school, graduation and higher education. Besides school, and college fees, we have supported children with expenses for boarding and lodging in Delhi. Where possible we have bought them computers to help them study better. In some cases, we have saved them from falling out of college for lack of funds. This has been done both, by directly supporting students, and by working with NGO’s in supporting specific students. All of this is now coming under the umbrella of the Lall Foundation.
Many of the children we have sponsored are from UP, and come from families of marginal farmers. They have all done well in their class 12 boards and are ambitious about their futures. Some children who have graduated have taken up jobs, others are preparing for competitive exams. The only thing we have asked of them is that in their lifetime they must give forward and sponsor the education of at least 2 other children without means. Presently the average cost of sponsoring a single child – including education, boarding and lodging is Rs 1.5 lakhs annually. In addition, there is a one-time expense of a computer. Sponsors can come on board as full sponsors or part sponsors. The Lall Foundation supports all the students directly, till the time we are able to locate sponsors for them.
