ASHUTOSH KUMAR

Ashutosh Kumar’s father is a temporary teacher (shiksha mitra) at a Government school in UP. Ashutosh scored 88.4% in his class XII from Vidyagyan School. He had now done his B’com from Delhi College of Arts & Commerce. He is the first student from his village to have studied in Delhi University making the whole village very product of him. He is interested in doing an MBA and is presently sitting for interviews for the colleges where he has cleared the entrance (including a number of the IIM’s). He scored 93% percentile in his CAT.

GEETIKA MARWAH

Geetika is a resident of Delhi. Her father ran a small trading business that did not do well and was eventually shut down. Her mother cooks at people’s homes and provides for the family. Geetika did her schooling from Delhi and took her NEET exams in 2019. She scored an All India Rank of 2552 with a 99.5% percentile score. She is presently doing her MBBS at University College of Medical Sciences, which is affiliated with Delhi University and is associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, which serves as the teaching hospital.

CHITRANSHI MISHRA

Chitranshi’s father is a small sugarcane farmer from UP.  She scored 91.4% in her class XII at Vidyagyan and joined Vivekananda College, Delhi University for her BA (Hons) in Applied Psychology.

She wants to pursue the field of psychology further and plans to do an MA.

SHIVA PATEL

Shiva is from Hasnapur village in Lakhimpur Kheri, in UP. Her father is a small farmer. She scored 91.4% in her Class XII at Vidyagyan.  She has now completed her BSc in Computer Science from Acharya Narendra Dev College, Govindpuri.

HARSHVARDHAN

Harshvardhan’s father is a small farmer from UP. He scored 92.6% in his Class XII at Vidyagyan.  He took an exam for a training center in Pune – Dakshana, which is for brilliant children from poor backgrounds. He cleared the exam and was given free coaching for a year.  However, since he did not secure admission in the engineering institutes of his choice he opted to do a graduation in Physics. His family has been very supportive of his ambitions. Because there is paucity of water where they have land, his father has mortgaged the land and used part of the money to help Harshvardan for his education.

SHIKHA SHUKLA

Shikha’s father died when she was in class VI. She has an older brother who has completed his BSC in a local college. He gives tuitions and supports the family. Her mother’s brother, who is a teacher, tutored her when she was young and she got admission in Vidyagyan after class V. She scored 90.2% in her class 12th and has now completed her B’com at PGDAV (Delhi University).

TANYA SINGH

Tanya Singh is from village Pure Neval Singh in UP. Her father is a farmer with 6 acres of land where he tills wheat/ rice alternately. She took the science stream in senior school and scored 91.8% in her boards the results of which were out earlier this year. She then took admission in Motilal Nehru College (Delhi).  Besides being good at studies Tanya is a national level athlete. She is a silver medallist in the CBSE national games 4×4 100 m relay. She has participated in 4 CBSE national games – in multiple relay events. She is presently doing her post-graduation in law from Delhi University.

DEEPMALA

Deepmala is from Hindupur Village in UP. Her father is a small famer who sold part of his land for the education of the children. Deepmala has completed her graduation in Political Science (honors) from Gargi College Delhi and is currently doing her MA. She wants to sit for her Civil Services Examination or alternately go for further studies and become a lecturer.  She is active in sports – she has played in CBSE Volley Ball Nationals representing Zone 4 while at school.   Deepmala is the only girl from her village who has gone out to a big city like Delhi to study.

PRANSHU RAJPOOT

Pranshu’s father is a small farmer from village Turramuhar (UP).  Pranshu completed his class XII in 2019 with a score of 84.6%. Pranshu has an interest in music and has completed a senior diploma in tabla from Prayag Sangit Samiti. He participated in the Yamaha musical contest and won the first prize in ITIHASS, a national level music competition held in Delhi. He is keen to carry on with his table practice and education in parallel with his academics. Pranshu is studying at the College of Vocational Studies (Delhi University). He will be doing a BVoc (BA Vocational) in Marketing Management.

Rashmi Kumari’s father is a shiksha mitra (temporary teacher) in UP. She completed her class XII from Vidyagyan with a score of 89%. She has done her BSc in Zoology from Deshbandhu Gupta College, Delhi University. She needed assistance for her 3rd year. She wants to do her masters and become a lecturer.

Neeru is from Firozabad. Her father is a marginal farmer. She lost her mother in 2011 (died under a wall collapse). Neeru did her class XII from Vidyagyan with a score of 90.2% . She has done her B’com from Gargi college. For her studies her father took a loan from the bank by mortgaging his land. That money ran out after first year of college. That is when she approached us for assistance. She has since graduated and is now working with Bank of America. She intends to gain work experience and sit for an MBA.

MANISH KUMAR

Manish Kumar is from Manichak Village in Bihar. His father works on other people’s lands. He did his schooling from Navodaya School and scored 84% in his Class XII.  He is doing Geography Honors at Shahid Bhagat Singh College. His father somehow put together the money to send him to Delhi – and Manish had hoped that he would be able to work and pay for his education. After coming to Delhi he fell very sick – typhoid. He was introduced to us by a fellow student. His determination to get a good education – against all odds – was inspiring. When Covid struck we got him a computer so he could study from the village. He aspires to join the government service (BPSC).

SHASHANK NAYAK 

Shashank Nayak is a 2nd year student at Swami Shradanand College located at Alipur in Delhi (close to Jehangirpuri Metro station). He is studying Botany honors.

Shashank’s father is a UP farmer with 2 acres of land where they grow wheat and pulses. He did his schooling from Vidyagyan where he got 87% in his class XII – with a 97% in biology. His father supported his college education through the first year with the family savings and then ran short of funds. Shashank himself has been giving tuitions to Class XII children and earned Rs 2,000/- a month through this.

MOHIT AWASTHI

Mohit Awasthi is from village Pandey Purva in UP. He did his class XII from Vidyagyan where he secured 90%. He got the highest marks in school in Accounts (96) and in Maths (95) and has taken admission in B’com in Shyam Lal College Delhi. He aspires to do his CA. His father is a marginal farmer with 2 bigha zameen who works on other people’s farms to take care of the family. His father took a loan from the neighbours to see the Mohit through the first 2 months of college in Delhi University. He has cleared his foundation exams while at college and is preparing for his intermediate exams.

KALPANA SHARMA

Kalpana Sharma is from village Baaschinta in Aligarh District. Her father owns 10 bigha of land where he grows paddy, wheat and potatoes. Since Kalpana scored 92.2 % (in Science) she was on full scholarship through college. She did her BSc from Gargi college, and graduated in 2020. She then enrolled for Bachelors in Education (B’ed) in MDU. Her father managed to support her through the first year which she attended while staying at home in her village but found it difficult to support her through the second and final year.

NISHANT PATEL

Nishant Patel is from Kannauj (near Kanpur).  His father is a small farmer with 2 bigha of land. Both his parents also work as farm labour in season on other people’s fields. A student of Vidyagyan school, he scored 86% in his class XII boards and joined Aurobindo College to do his B’com.

He first worked as an evening sales per at Keventers, then at Chaayos Cafe, then as a night security guard. He would work in the evenings/ night and go to College in the day.  He earned about Rs 12,000/- a month by doing this – but since he was working 10 – 12 hours a day/ 6 days a week, he was unable to keep up with his studies. He was perpetually tired and his grades started following. After 3 semesters of this he was exhausted and after at some point in the 4th semester he gave up and went back to the village. A friend told him about us. We encouraged him to get back to his studies. He took up a job with a BPO after graduation to gain some work experience and earn some income.

SANGEETA CHAUHAN

Sangeeta Chauhan scored 85% is her Class XII at Vidyagan. Around the time she finished school her family moved from the village to Delhi since they were finding it difficult to make costs meet in the village. Her mother joined a small factory where she earned 5,000/- a month.  Her father worked in another factory and earned Rs 10,000/- a month. The family of 7 people lived in a single room in Jehangirpuri till Covid struck and they joined the migrants who moved back the village. Sangeeta joined B’com at Lakshmibai college in Delhi. She has now graduated.
